Intercultural Communication Workshops:
Meaningful and Productive Exchanges
Intercultural communication is becoming increasingly important due to the rise of globalisation. Indeed, most work and living environments are now multicultural, resulting in a high frequency of intercultural exchanges in our daily lives. In that sense, for most of us, intercultural communication is no longer an option, it is a necessity.
There are many different types of culture and they all influence how we feel as people and how we interact with others. This is particularly true for individuals who operate within large companies and international organisations which have their own internal work cultures:
Organizations are known to have their own “culture” that influences the way “we do business.” Orienting new employees to an organization’s culture so they know how to “behave properly” and participate effectively in the organization can be a key factor in that employee’s success. (Schein, 1985)
Our workshops are run by Dr Yacine Korid, a specialist in social and cultural anthropology, and aim at introducing some of the main concepts of intercultural communication while helping participants apply such notions in an empirical, concrete manner. The purpose here is to facilitate exchanges between individuals and groups of different linguistic and cultural origin, with an emphasis on the professional setting. Indeed, culture and communication are not just important for travel and personal life; they play a crucial role in how smoothly an organisation operates and have a direct impact on company performance.
These workshops are not academic seminars and are therefore accessible to everyone, however much they know about the topic. Furthermore, these courses are designed to fit different types of participants, whether they be part of a multicultural team or involved in international business. Correspondingly, we offer two distinct series of workshops (both taught in the English language) to fit the needs of our clients:
-
Intercultural communication for in-company use
-
Intercultural communication for international business
Both of these courses are available in group or one-on-one format and can take place in-company (in Vienna, Austria) or online. Moreover, they are fully adaptable to the specific circumstances and needs of your organisation.
